Corporation record, 1852-[ongoing].

Articles of incorporation are required to be filed with the judge of probate before a certificate of incorporation can be issued (see Ala. Code, 10-2A-92 [1975]). The probate judge must transcribe the articles in the Corporation Record and return the executed copy to the corporation or its representative. Copies of these records are also filed by the probate judge with the Secretary of State in Montgomery (S-7-42 Corporations File). The series consists of bound volumes that contain transcriptions or photocopies of articles of incorporation. It may also include other related filings such as amendments to the articles of incorporation, articles of merger or consolidation, statements regarding issues of stock, statements of capital, and articles of dissolution. This record began ca. 1852 and continues to the present.
